BTB After School Program

Youth Services-After School Playground Important Information

AFTERSCHOOL PLAYGROUND - Beyond the Bell

The After-School playground is conducted by the Youth Services Unit of the Los Angeles Unified School District as a neighborhood resource to the community’s recreational facilities.  Students participating in this program must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with Youth Services policy and within the rules and regulations established by the school administration.  Children may be suspended from the after-school playground for fighting threatening others, spitting, use of profanity and other behavior judged to be disruptive by those supervising the after school activities.

A program of organized games and activities is provided for those students in grades 2 – 5 who are independent.  Middle and High School students are not allowed on the playground.  The playground will be open from 2:35 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Monday – Friday.  The playground will open at the end of the school day on minimum, shortened and Banked Time Days.  The After-School Playground is NOT a childcare program. The playground will be closed on all school and legal holidays.  It will also be closed with prior notice in the absence of the playground supervisor. In case of playground cancellation, families need a backup plan whereby the student can get home.

Children should enter/leave (or be picked up) through the main gate (Cowan Ave).  Bicycles, rollerblades, and skateboards are not allowed on campus.  Only Youth Service equipment may be used for the afterschool playground.  These regulations are made for the safety of the children.

Adults are permitted on the playground only if they have identified themselves in the office and get a “visitors” pass.  After 4:30 p.m., adults must identify themselves to the playground director and get his/her permission to be on the yard.  Adults are reminded that they may not approach another person’s child to admonish or reprimand him/her.  Problems on the yard must be reported to the coach.  Please remind your children that the same rules apply of behavior apply on the after school playground as during the regular school day.

At the conclusion of the each playground day, the Youth Services Playground supervisor has the responsibility to lock all playground gates and to secure all program facilities.  By doing so, Youth Services and its personnel have completed their responsibilities to the community, the school and the District.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
