The Governance Council (GC) is Cowan’s main governing body.  Its purpose is to work together with all Cowan stakeholders, and Cowan’s network partner, LMU, toward the continuous improvement of our school.  GC meetings are regularly scheduled at 3:30pm every second Tuesday of the month.  There are also some evening meetings as required.  Meetings are open to all Cowan stakeholders, and to the public in general.

The Governance Council fulfills all duties and responsibilities of the School Site Council (SSC) as required by the California Education Code.  These include decisions regarding the school’s categorical budgets (Federal and State funds), and development and implementation of the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement, the guiding document of the school.  The GC has expanded responsibilities granted under iDesign autonomy, including, curriculum and instructional strategies, District School Budgets, hiring and staffing, school culture and accountability and assessment.
